SA National Defence Force MSDS 2027 Intake

The SA National Defence Force (SANDF) has officially opened applications for the Military Skills Development System (MSDS) 2027 intake. What Is the SANDF Military Skills Development System (MSDS)?

The Military Skills Development System (MSDS) is a two-year contract programme offered by the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).

During the programme:

  • Year 1: Recruits undergo basic military training and specialised training in their chosen service.
  • Year 2: Members are deployed to various units where they gain practical experience, apply their skills, and develop leadership abilities.

The MSDS programme provides young South Africans with:

SANDF MSDS 2027 Entry Requirements

To qualify for the MSDS 2027 intake, applicants must meet the following criteria:

General Requirements

  • Must be a South African citizen (no dual citizenship)
  • Age between 18 – 22 years (with Grade 12)
  • Age between 18 – 26 years (with a 3-year tertiary qualification)
  • Minimum Admission Point Score (APS) of 18
  • Life Orientation (Level 4 minimum)
  • Maths and Physical Science required for specialised musterings (e.g. Aviation, Engineering)
  • No criminal record or pending cases
  • Must meet medical fitness requirements
  • Will undergo drug testing, psychometric and medical evaluations
  • No visible tattoos when in uniform

Required Documents for MSDS Application 2027

When applying for the SANDF MSDS programme, you must attach:

  • Comprehensive CV
  • Certified copy of South African ID
  • Certified copy of Matric certificate
    (Statement of results for 2025 will be accepted)
  • Certified copies of tertiary qualifications (if applicable)

Incomplete applications may not be considered.
