Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) has officially announced 40 fixed‑term vacancies  under the TRIM RNC Construction Project, with positions for General Workers and Erectors in the Electrical Engineering Works department.

These roles are ideal for unemployed youth, semi‑skilled workers, and candidates looking to gain hands‑on railway construction and maintenance experience.

Contract Duration: 01 April – 31 May 2026

Overview of the Available Positions

1. General Workers (30 Posts)

  • Department: Electrical Engineering Works
  • Job Level: L2
  • Location: Saldanha
  • Type: Fixed-term (2 months)

2. Erectors (10 Posts)

  • Department: Electrical Engineering Works
  • Job Level: J1
  • Location: Saldanha
  • Purpose: Erection and maintenance of Overhead Track Equipment (OHTE)

1. General Worker – Job Purpose & Requirements

These workers will support construction teams with manual labour tasks related to overhead electrical systems on the rail network.

Working Conditions

General Workers must be prepared for:

  • Long hours
  • Confined spaces
  • Working at heights
  • Noisy environments
  • Harsh weather

Key Duties

  • Loading and offloading materials
  • Clearing and cleaning work areas
  • Maintaining tools
  • Assisting technicians
  • Carrying and erecting 12‑metre ladders
  • Following safety procedures

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 9, OR
  • 6 months relevant work experience
  • Physically fit
  • Able to pass a medical examination
  • Able to communicate in English
  • Must be safety‑conscious
  • Willing to work in tough outdoor conditions

2. Erector – Job Purpose & Requirements

Erectors play a technical role installing and repairing OHTE (Overhead Track Equipment) critical to powering electric trains.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 + 3 years OHTE experience, OR
  • Grade 10 + 5 years experience

Mandatory Certifications

  • Green Certificate
  • Working at Heights Certificate
  • First Aid Level 1

Core Responsibilities

  • Erecting OHTE structures
  • Reading electrification layout diagrams
  • Handling high‑voltage safety (3kV DC, 25kV AC, 50kV AC, 6.6–11kV lines)
  • Operating equipment (compressors, cranes)
  • Tool inspection and preparation
  • Observing strict electrical safety protocols
