Job Purpose
The main objective of the role is to support supply chain operations by assisting with loading and off-loading vehicles, crate washing, and maintaining warehouse cleanliness.
The General Worker will also ensure that crates and stock are properly handled, stored, and supplied to relevant departments while following strict safety and quality standards.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Candidates should possess the following skills and competencies:
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of product handling, labelling, and storage practices
- Basic math and warehouse management knowledge
- Ability to plan and coordinate with other departments
- Knowledge of storage area control
- Understanding of Safety, Health and Environmental practices
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Ability to read and understand instructions
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will perform the following tasks:
Stock Handling
- Load and off-load stock at customer receiving points and on-site locations
- Load and off-load crates during deliveries
- Verify stock against customer invoices to ensure accuracy
Crate Management
- Ensure production departments have sufficient crates
- Separate clean and dirty crates
- Monitor and maintain water levels in the crate washer machine
- Report crate washer faults to management
Warehouse Operations
- Maintain good housekeeping standards
- Ensure truck load bin floors remain clean
- Manage storage areas effectively
Safety and Compliance
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas
- Participate in company safety programmes
- Report food safety or quality issues immediately
Reporting and Maintenance
- Report damaged crates and quantities washed per customer
- Report any faults with pallet jacks or trolleys
- Assist in continuous improvement initiatives
Operational Support
- Work shift schedules when required
- Assist with delivery operations when necessary
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the RCL Foods General Worker job in Pretoria, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Ability to read and write
- Computer literacy will be an advantage
