Don&#8217;t miss this opportunity \u2013 read on to learn more about the application process and requirements.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Purpose<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Assist the Train Driver in the safe and efficient driving\/handling of all different types of trains\/locomotives consists (airbrake, vacuum, high speed, heavy haul and passengers) to ensure that the customers freight\/cargo reaches its destination in good condition, on time, in order to enable the organisation to satisfy the customer needs.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Duties and Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Sign on duty at designated workplace and be allocated duties to be performed for the duration of the shift.<\/li>\n<li>Assist in performing various administration duties.<\/li>\n<li>Determine which locomotive to be prepared.<\/li>\n<li>Obtain and place equipment on locomotive.<\/li>\n<li>Check and supplement prescribed equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with starting up of locomotive as prescribed assist with locomotive brake tests.<\/li>\n<li>Couple locomotive<\/li>\n<li>Obtain radio\u2019s\/handsets\/walkie talkie\/telemeters when applicable.<\/li>\n<li>Check functionality of communication equipment<\/li>\n<li>Performs the pre \u2013 trip preparation of the Locomotives and the whole Train prior the departure to adhere to roadworthiness and train working rules and safety standards.<\/li>\n<li>Attach\/detach vehicles according to works order in absence of guard personnel.<\/li>\n<li>Mount telemeters where necessary<\/li>\n<li>Complete vehicle list and vacuum form<\/li>\n<li>Mount train indicators<\/li>\n<li>Examine train.<\/li>\n<li>Do brake test in conjunction with train driver.<\/li>\n<li>Execute shunting activities in sidings and enroute according to directives to enhance safe working procedures.<\/li>\n<li>Obtain works order.<\/li>\n<li>Perform shunting\/placing\/removing of trucks as per works order.<\/li>\n<li>Update vehicle list<\/li>\n<li>Place and clear load\/empty trucks at siding<\/li>\n<li>Assist the train driver enroute to ensure the safe movement of the tarin from a required point to the destination, without delays or damage to locomotives, wagons, infrastructure track and other equipment, to ensure predictable service.<\/li>\n<li>Verbally compare signal positions and display with train driver.<\/li>\n<li>Observe proceeding trains patrol locomotives.<\/li>\n<li>Reset locomotive trip outs.<\/li>\n<li>Observe safe running of train.<\/li>\n<li>Protect train during incidents.<\/li>\n<li>Assist Train Driver during emergency circumstances.<\/li>\n<li>Comply to safety standards and laid down instruction to ensure that he is well motivated and competent.<\/li>\n<li>Provide accurate feedback timeously to the Train Driver regarding any incidents and deviations along the route.<\/li>\n<li>Complete the Train journal and submit to the Section Manager at sign \u2013 off after every shift to ensure timeous and accurate processing of monthly salary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Minimum Requirements:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Grade 12 with pure Mathematics and\/ or Physical Science<\/li>\n<li>Be prepared to undergo periodic medical surveillance and safety behavioral risk assessments during the selection process and every 12 months.<\/li>\n<li>Physical hearing, vision, mental, fitness (to be verified through medical tests and related safety behavioral risk assessments)<\/li>\n<li>The operator shall not allow employees younger than 21 years of age to undertake Train driver or train control duties<\/li>\n<li>The candidate should be a minimum of 1.6m tall.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Psychomotor ability (to be assessed through Vienna Testing System (VTS standards)<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Ability to carry heavy objects.<\/li>\n<li>Be prepared to successfully undergo Train Assistant duties (theoretical and practical) so as to be certified to work independently as a Train Assistant<\/li>\n<li>Be willing, prepared and capable to obtain a Train Assistant duties certificate (theoretical and practical) successfully and be certified to work independently as Train Assistant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Location:<\/strong>\u00a0South Africa<\/p>\n<h4><strong>How to apply\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Location:<\/strong>\u00a0Belfast<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/transnettalentportal.csod.com\/ux\/ats\/careersite\/1\/home\/requisition\/2569?c=transnettalentportal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apply here online for Transnet Train Assistant Learnerships 2025<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Location:<\/strong>\u00a0Lydenburg<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/transnettalentportal.csod.com\/ux\/ats\/careersite\/1\/home\/requisition\/2568?c=transnettalentportal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0Apply here online for Transnet Train Assistant Learnerships 2025<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Closing date: Not specified<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Exciting news for aspiring railway professionals!
