Knowledge and Competencies

Applicants should have knowledge of:

  • Access control procedures.
  • Movement and control of government equipment and stores.
  • Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS).
  • National Industrial Security Academy (NISA) requirements.
  • Protection of Information Act.
  • Emergency response procedures.
  • Security equipment and surveillance systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Controlling access to SAPS premises in accordance with the Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act, 1985 (Act No. 53 of 1985).
  • Verifying the identity of employees, visitors and contractors.
  • Registering visitors and issuing access control cards.
  • Conducting electronic searches where required.
  • Confirming appointments with host officials before granting access.
  • Escorting visitors in accordance with SAPS procedures.
  • Inspecting deliveries, goods and equipment entering or leaving SAPS premises.
  • Conducting patrols of buildings and secured areas.
  • Guarding government vehicles and equipment.
  • Inspecting security systems and reporting faults.
  • Reporting security incidents and breaches to senior personnel.
  • Maintaining visitor registers and security records.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Be proficient in English and at least one other official language.
  • Possess a Grade 10 / Standard 8 / NCV Level 2 (NQF Level 2 recognised by SAQA) qualification.
  • Hold a valid Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) registration.
  • Be in possession of a Grade C Security Certificate or higher.
  • Not be declared unfit to possess a firearm.
  • Be willing to undergo firearm competency training and maintain competency.
  • Be willing to work shifts and extended hours.
