Programme Overview

Transnet is offering a Yard Official Trainee Programme that provides structured training and hands-on experience in rail yard operations. A Trainee Yard Official will be required to undergo modular training, conduct and successfully complete the required modules in order to qualify and be certified as a Yard Official. The programme equips trainees with practical skills in safety procedures, coordination, and yard management, preparing them for future roles within the rail and logistics sector.

Duties Responsibilities

• Attend and complete a theoretical Training Program within the required time frame.
• Attend and complete a practical Training Program within the required time frame.
• Develop competency to perform operations and operate equipment as assigned and be accountable for jobs at end of training period.
• Safely and efficiently accomplish work assignments and goals that are in line with the Training Program, company’s strategies and vision.
• Maintain comprehensive records (portfolio of evidence) of all theoretical and practical training experience for use in progressing.

• Yard Official Course
• Yard and siding layout/working
• Geography of the section of responsibility.
• Shunting procedures
• Train service
• Act 85
• Vocational knowledge.
• High voltage safety instructions
• General and local appendix and directives
• Hazardous materials
• Radio train order system.

Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric certificate
• Must successfully pass a (psychological screening) battery test
• Must successfully pass relevant to the job level medical test (including eyes and ears)
• Physically fit
• Must successfully complete and pass theoretical as well as practical training as a Yard Official
